CHURCH IN CRISIS?
OR SMEAR CAMPAIGN?
July 2002

UPDATES: (see updates below)

  • NPR admits smear campaign quiets Catholic Church from opposing war.
  • FOX hits Church with its TV show, Boston Public.
  • Bishop Gregory accuses "strike the shepherd and scatter the flock."

"Whats happening in the catholic church we've known about for years. The reason the media is coming out with this now is because they want to break the people's faith in god, and transfer that faith to government." -Eric Ture Muhammad, 7:48 A.M. (EST) CSPAN-1, 7/12/2002 [ID 171159]

On April 25, 2002, the "Democracy Now" show on Pacifica radio ran a story on sexual abuses in the Catholic Church, as every media institution has been doing for months. During this show, comments were made by Frederick Berlin, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, founder of the Johns Hopkins Sexual Disorders Clinic and consultant on the National Conference of Catholic Bishops' ad hoc committee on sexual abuse.

"I don't know of any evidence that pedophilia is any more prevalent in the Catholic church than any other sector of society; I don't know of any evidence that child sexual abuse is higher within the church than any other segments of society; recently we focused on the church...
Its important to step back and realize that there have been comparable problems in Boy Scouts of America, for example. Also, Big Brothers organization has had to take precautions because its concerned about this issue..."

The Catholic Church has obviously used its power to attempt to hide this problem for decades, but why is it in the media now? Why is the Catholic Church receiving daily coverage in all corporate (FOX/ABC/NBC) and Rockefeller (PBS/NPR) controlled media?

Through the entire month of March and April, National Public Radio has spent at least an hour a day telling the public of the new evils of the Catholic Church. The Washington Post runs a cover story almost everyday, if not discussing war, then the problems in the Catholic Church. Why has the media ignored this problem until now, and suddenly decided to remind the public of this daily?

June 8, 2002 article UPI article reports:

VATICAN CITY, Vatican City, June 8 (UPI) -- A Catholic cardinal who some believe may become the next pope has accused the U.S. media of using tactics reminiscent more of Stalin, Hitler and two brutal Roman emperors than of objective journalists covering the church's recent pedophilia scandals, according to an interview in an upcoming issue of an Italian Catholic magazine. Indeed, most coverage in the United States had been "obviously and openly anti-Catholic" toward this year's child sex scandals, Honduran Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga told the magazine Trente Giorni, or "Thirty Days," for its June 12 issue.

    Why smear the Catholic Church?

The world has now obviously come to a fragile point, as powerful forces try to drive every aspect of this planet into war. There is a New World Order moving forward, and war is their key for world domination. The Catholic Church has courageously come to the plate, and taken a stand. This media smear campaign hitting the Church hard, at such a crucial time, is no coincidence.

It is clear that Church is taking a stand in the heart of the current world conflicts. On Wednesday, April 3, 2002, Reuters reported the Pope "rejects unjust conditions and humiliations imposed on the Palestinian people as well as the reprisals and revenge attacks which do nothing but feed the sense of frustration and hatred."

On Tuesday, April 16, 2002, Reuters reported "Pope John Paul has telephoned Franciscan monks holed up in the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem to express his solidarity with them." This is blatant defiance of the intentions of the Israeli army, who hasn't carried siege on the church, only for fear of harming the monks.

Even more recently, former Archbishop Desmond Tutu made even harsher statements, which rang throughout the world. On Monday April 29, 2002, the Guardian paper reported his words:

"Have our Jewish sisters and brothers forgotten their humiliation? Have they forgotten the collective punishment, the home demolitions, in their own history so soon? Have they turned their backs on their profound and noble religious traditions? Have they forgotten that God cares deeply about the downtrodden? .... But you know as well as I do that, somehow, the Israeli government is placed on a pedestal [in the US], and to criticize it is to be immediately dubbed anti-Semitic, as if the Palestinians were not Semitic.... People are scared in this country [the US], to say wrong is wrong because the Jewish lobby is powerful - very powerful."

Its obvious those who control the U.S. media don't appreciate this sediment, because instead of covering the Archbishop, they decided to talk about pedophilia of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church is attempting to fight two wars; the first is against the New World Order, and the second is a public relations war. Discrediting and dividing the Church will be one more war that helps the New World Order.

    UPDATES:

December 2, 2002: FOX show, Boston Public shows the evil of the Church, and any organized religion as a cult. "At first, it was just wrestling. Then, he began rubbing me," confesses a poor student, victim of the Church. FOX fulfills its New World Order agenda by demonizing religion today.

November 15, 2002: Washington Post, page A02, Prelates Fear Scandal Drowning Out Voice
"As the United States moved toward a possible war with Iraq, the leaders of America's largest religious denomination this week questioned the ethical grounds for a preemptive attack. Yet the statement by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops was all but drowned out by the church's sex abuse scandal."

November 13, 2002: Washington Post, page A09, Bishops Preparing Iraq Position
"After months at the center of the church's sex abuse scandal, Cardinal Bernard Law of Boston presided over the nation's Roman Catholic bishops yesterday as they began shaping a statement questioning the morality of a preemptive U.S. war on Iraq."

November 12, 2002: New York Times, Bishops Seek to Reclaim Authority
"Sadly, even among the baptized," Bishop Gregory said, "there are those at extremes within the church who have chosen to exploit the vulnerability of the bishops in this moment to advance their own agendas. One cannot fail to hear in the distance -- and sometimes very nearby -- the call of the false prophet, `Let us strike the shepherd and scatter the flock.' "

September 8, 2002: NPR hosts "loyal priest," Hugh Bruns, who charges that:
"Since January, the Catholic Church has looked more and more like another sleazy reality TV program....Like it or not, our American system...offers Catholics a model... Trust in the Church hierarchy is in tatters right now, nobody wants to hear what the Bishops have to say about anything. Not about war with Iraq..."
